he Mizoram State e-Governance Society in its attempt at qualitative enhancement of school education has introduced ICT enabled education through an initiative termed as “Creation of Education Technology Infrastructure in 50 Govt. Girls Middle Schools of Mizoram”. This project aims to spread applications of ICT in Classroom transactions. 50 Govt. Girl’s middle schools of Mizoram have been taken under this project. K-Yan (Knowledge Vehicle) is a multipurpose digital teaching-learning device, which integrates the capability of a high-end computer, an ultra-large screen television & a projector preloaded with curriculum-based multimedia teaching aids. K-Yan, through its simulated lessons helps to bring to reality the school syllabi via its audio visual content in the classroom, without any additional infrastructural inputs.

The lessons have been created in a way that they help in conceptual understanding through animated audiovisual effect. However, their delivery can be under the control of the teachers who can give innovative shape to their classroom teaching. The device has been built in a way that it can be used with the minimum effort. An ICT in Education training had been organized for the teachers of the project schools for this purpose. In addition, an arrangement has been made wherein each school shall be given a 1-year support service to enable its implementation and maintenance. This device has been spread to the remotest parts of the state for which a UPS has also been provided. This project has been conceptualized by MSeGS, Directorate of School Education & sponsored by the DIT, GoI. The Education & Technology arm of IL&FS is providing technical support to this project.
